Scooterist dies after crashing into oncoming car at Taleigao

A scooterist died in a head-on collision after his bike crashed into an oncoming car at Taleigao on Sunday night. The woman driver of the Hyundai car, Arpita Goel, has been arrested.

Panaji police informed that the victim bike rider Abdul Khan came under the wheels when the car veered off the road and crashed into his bike, barely a few metres away from the local MLA’s residence.

He died en route to the Goa Medical College while the pillion rider, identified as Edward Fernandes, sustained minor injuries. The woman’s alcohol test was carried out to ascertain if she was under the influence of alcohol.

PI Nikhil Palekar said though alcohol presence was not detected, doctors at Asilo hospital have collected her blood samples for an enhanced test to confirm alcohol in her body.

She has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304-A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
