The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Saturday has accused the Union government for attempts to bypass the Constitution and implement the party agenda to the detriment of the various people staying in the country.
The SDPI also took exception to the covert and overt moves by the government to ban the slaughter of animals and deny a large section of the people from consuming beef by violating the Constitution guaranteeing the right to eat.
Addressing concerned citizens at an interaction in the city here on Saturday, SDPI Goa unit president Sheikh Iftiyaz pointed out that the government appears hell-bent in stopping the consumption of beef for the benefit of high class people involved in the export of meat. “Nearly 80 per cent of the population consumes beef in the country but an attempt is made to project that beef is only consumed by the Muslims and other minorities," he said. “The architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheeb Ambedkar had safeguarded the interests of all communities. The Constitution was adopted after studying the features of the Constitutions of other countries across the world. However, attempts are being made to subvert the Constitution and implement the Party agenda by the Centre," he said.
Addressing the meeting, SDPI State media inÂcharge, Nagpur Jitendra Godeshwar reminded that the Constitution declares India as a sovereign, secular, democratic republic assuring its citizens of justice, equality and liberty and endeavours to promote fraternity among them.
He said that the ruling party is opposed to the coming together of the Muslims, minorities and the Dalits and the Scheduled Tribes, while attributing the violence amongst these communities as part of the sinister design by the fascist forces.
