The transportation of e-auctioned ore finally resumed from Codli to Amona on Friday, with over 11,000 tonnes of e-auctioned ore being transported by Vedanta without any trouble.

A Vedanta official stated that they could transport the ore without any obstruction.

It may be recalled that the 36-day deadlock between the striking truckers and Vedanta was resolved on Thursday, with both the parties agreeing to the rate of Rs 11.10 per tonne per km to transport the e-auctioned ore. As agreed, Vedanta pulled out trucks from 'out of route', which was demanded by the agitating truckers.

On Friday, Vedanta engaged trucks, as agreed, on the Codli-Amona route and the e-auctioned ore was transported from 8 am to 5.30 pm.

Speaking to The Goan, Joseph Coelho, operations head at Vedanta, said more than 1,100 trucks transported the ore. “The transportation was peaceful and about 11,000 tonnes of ore was transported to Surla and Amona today,” he informed.

According to sources from the mining industry, the loss faced by the company and other dependents could run into crores of rupees during the 36 days of agitation. “It is not only the company which faced losses; barge owners, dumping plot owners, truckers and others were also affected. It could be in crores,” said a source.

Sources further informed that a truck would get two trips per day to transport the remaining e-auctioned ore.

Efforts to contact All Goa Trucks Owners Association president Nilkant Gawas were futile.
