With the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) underway, the District Administration (North Goa) has imposed Section 144 CrPC banning the assembly of five or more persons, and carrying of firearms, among other restrictions in the Panaji and Agassaim police stations jurisdiction till the festival concludes on November 28.The order -- based on a report from Superintendent of Police North that stated it does not rule out the possibility of various organizations holding demonstrations/take out agitations/ nor has, etc during the IFFI -- has also been notified.
To maintain public peace, order and tranquillity, DM Sneha Gitte ordered that there are sufficient grounds for proceeding under section 144 (1) CrPC.
It prohibits assembly and gathering of five or more persons and taking out or organizing of processions, carrying of firearms or weapons of offenses such as lathis, swords, daggers or spears; use of loudspeakers, shouting of slogans and burning of firecrackers near the petrol pumps and at the venues of meetings, etc. in any public place, street, road, square, thoroughfare, by-lane or in any open space within the radius of 500 metres around the IFFI venues.
The order does not apply to public servants on duty and to bonafide marriage or funeral processions or any special occasion or occasions which in the opinion of the district administration are genuine and for which prior permission in writing has/have been obtained.
