A 31-year-old security guard from Jharkhand was found dead under mysterious circumstances, after allegedly having fallen off the terrace on the 8th floor of a building in Dabolim on Friday. Incidentally, this is the second fatal incident of a person having fallen off the eighth floor of a building in Dabolim in a fortnight.

The incident, which occurred in MVR residential colony at Dabolim, has left locals shocked and the victim’s family devastated. The distraught family has raised suspicions surrounding the circumstances of the guard’s death and is demanding justice and support. The police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragic incident.

Social worker and former Sancoale panch Arish Kadar said he received information from another guard about the incident. “When I reached the site, I saw the body of Raju Manjhi lying in a pool of blood, and since nothing was being done in the matter, some workers approached me for help in getting some financial assistance to the family of the deceased,” said Kadar.

“They are a very poor family from Jharkhand, and Manjhi had been working as a security guard for the last six months. We are not sure if the deceased had really gone to check the water levels in the tanks or whether there a fight had led to his death,” said Kadar.

DOUBTS RAISED

Some other workers at the site had doubts over possible foul play in the incident.

“We were working here but no one knows about the incident, and it was only in the early morning when the body was found. The dead body did not have pants and there could be foul play involved in the incident or someone may have pushed him from the terrace,” said one worker.

“There was possibly no reason for the guard to go on the terrace when he is supposed to be at the gates, and this also raises our suspicion in the incident,” said the worker.

INVESTIGATIONS

Sources in Verna police said the deceased, identified as Raju Manjhi, was posted as a security guard of the residential colony. “The incident occurred in the morning, and we carried out the panchanama at site and are investigating the case from all angles. As per our preliminary investigation, there is no foul play involved,” said a police source.

“We are being given to understand that many times these people go on the terrace to have food at night when they check for water levels in the tanks. It is very likely that the deceased may have removed his pants to prevent his clothes from getting wet. We will nevertheless check the case in all angles.”

Incidentally, this is the second fatal incident of a person having fallen off the eighth floor of a building in Dabolim within a fortnight.

A labourer Akib Raza from UP had died after falling off the eighth-floor building ‘Essen Horizon Phase Two’ in Dabolim while carrying out maintenance works on March 21.
