Self Reliant Reforms Centre for jail inmates soon

In a bid to make the jail inmates atmanirbhar as the government has chalked out plans for their reformation, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced the setting up of Self Reliant Reforms Centre at Colvale Jail.  

“With the intention to make inmates fully reformed on their release, various reformatory activities such as tailoring, paper bag making, carpentry pottery activity sewing machine activities are already being undertaken in the Jail which help to show the creativity of inmates,” he said after inaugurating the newly constructed cowshed and Sanitary Pad making machine at the modern central jail.  

He announced setting up the Self Reliant Reforms Centre as various government departments and NGOs have been roped-in to undertake various skill development training and programs for the inmates.  

The CM also released Arm Badge introduced for the executive jail staff, to be worn on their uniforms and also inspected the jail blocks as well as the reformatory activities undertaken in the prison.  

Inspector General of Prisons Omvir Singh Bishnoi (IPS), also present at the event, briefed about various future projects to be taken up in the Colvale Jail such as “Go Green” adding that solar panel structures on the entire rooftops of the Colvale Jail will go a long way to produce green energy and help to reduce the electricity bill to zero.  

“It will cover the street lights, cooking through steamers, pumping of water through solar motor pumps, solar heater for hot water and entire usage of electricity in all the Jail Blocks to be switched over to green energy,” he informed.
