MAPUSA
Stating that there were attempts to mislead the people of Mapusa over the de-silting of River Tar, Shiv Sena President Jitesh Kamat on Tuesday said local MLA, Joshua D’Souza was taking credit for desilting work with a focus on the 2022 assembly polls.
Kamat also slammed the move of creating an artificial lake for Visarjan of Ganesh idols.
“The local MLA who has failed on all fronts is now trying to misguide the people of Mapusa on desilting of the River Tar. If the desilting work is being done for Visarjan then why is an artificial lake being developed in Bodgini?” Kamat questioned while addressing the media along with the other office-bearers of the party.
He said last year the de-silting of the river could not take place due to ongoing Covid restrictions and therefore the Visarjan was carried out in the artificial lake.
“We had then warned not to carry out Visarjan of the idols in an artificial pond. But the same exercise is being repeated. The desilting process is only to misguide the people with the 2022 assembly polls in mind,” the Shiv Sena chief said.
“One must understand there is religious and scientific value in doing Visarjan in flowing water,” he added.
When told that the artificial pond was an option to avoid crowding during the Visarjan on account of the ongoing Covid threat, Kamat said Visarjan can be carried out systematically at River Tar by following all the SoPs.
