A senior citizen from Verla-Canca was conned of Rs 46,000 in a bank ATM card fraud, Mapusa Police informed.
Police have registered an offence against an unknown person in the matter.
According to police, complainant Uday Mashelkar had gone to withdraw some cash at the SBI ATM booth in Mapusa but since he could not complete his transaction, a person next to him convinced him to get his money using another ATM nearby.
As both were proceeding to another bank ATM, the conman allegedly diverted the complainant’s attention and exchanged his ATM card with another similar looking card.
The conman later used the complainant’s ATM card to withdraw Rs 45,999, which he came to know through an SMS message on his mobile. The incident happened on Thursday.
Police said that the accused cannot be properly identified on the CCTV camera but efforts are being made to find the accused. Mapusa Police are investigating further.
