MARGAO
Sources in the know informed that a notification constituting the SGPDA with a new Chairman and members is likely to be issued by the government in a day or two.
After the government headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had come to power post-March 11, Goa Forward party mentor and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai had made it clear to the government that the Chairmanship of both the SGPDA and Ravindra Bhavan, Margao should come to the coalition partner.
While the government had constituted most of the State-owned Corporations, there was a delay in the constitution of the SGPDA as well as the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao with certain quarters attributing the delay in
the finalisation of the right candidate.
With the Goa Forward party conveying the party’s firm view that the chairmanship of both the SGDPA and Ravindra Bhavan should come to the regional party, it has been decided that a prominent leader of the party should head the crucial Planning and Development Authority.
That the GFP has decided to have its member as the PDA Chairman further assumes significance given the fact that the TCP department is headed by none other the party supremo Vijai Sardesai.
The decision to have a party leader as the PDA chairman also comes against the backdrop of the fact that the Outline Development Plan for the Margao and Fatorda remains inconclusive till date after a city-based NGO had moved the High Court staying the finalisation of
the ODP.
Sources in the know said the notification constituting the SGPDA is likely to be issued in a day or two as the government is believed to have obtained consent from the State Election Commission to issue the notification since there are no panchayat bodies in the planning areas of the SGPDA.
