Two persons -- a 45-year-old helmetless rider in Assonora and a 62-year-old rider whose helmet flew in the air in a head-on collision in Mapusa -- died in two separate road mishaps in Bardez on Wednesday.
The first mishap occured at around 11 am, when a goods carrier dashed on the deceased Shailesh Nanodkar (45) a resident of Nanodkar, Bicholim who was riding a bike.
The rider who suffered serious head injuries died while taking treatment at North Goa district hospital.
Mapusa police informed that the rider was carrying a helmet on his bike but not wearing it at the time of mishap. In the second mishap which was caught on CCTV camera, a goods carrier (pickup) driver crashed into the oncoming rider Jagdish Shetkar (62) near Bodgini temple in the evening.
With the impact the rider was flung on the side of the road while his helmet flew in the air apparently indicating that the helmet was not fastened properly.
Shetkar, a resident of Cunchelim, Mapusa who suffered serious body injuries was first rushed to the district hospital and then shifted to GMC where he died while undergoing treatment.
Mapusa Police informed that the good carrier driver did not have a licence.
Police have registered cases against both the goods carrier drivers for rash and negligent driving.Further investigation is on.
