Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has said the State government is planning a separate road from the Sangolda-Socorro junction to Calangute through the fields of Sangolda and Saligao.
He was speaking at Alto-Pilerne after launching the work to hot-mix the Chogm road in the presence of Pilerne panch Roshna Rane, Reis Magos panch Shailendra Parulekar and Sangolda panch members Ulhas Morajkar, Pushpa Naik and Divya Palyekar.
“Vehicular traffic along the Porvorim-Calangute Chogm road has increased sharply in recent times. Several ancestral houses are located along this Chogm road and hence, widening of the road is not possible.”
“Hence, there is a need to develop a separate dedicated road from Alto-Porvorim to Calangute. The State government is, therefore, contemplating a separate road from the Sangolda-Socorro junction to Calangute through the fields of Sangolda and Saligao,” said Salgaonkar.
The MLA also felt the need to develop a road from the Pilerne plateau to Calangute to ease the movement of traffic on roads in Saligao roads.
“This is because traffic in Saligao has increased immensely. With the expansion of the waste management plant at Saligao plateau to 250 tonnes per day, traffic is bound to increase further.”
Salgaonkar said 5.3 km of the Chogm road is being hot-mixed at a cost of around Rs 5 crore.
“Work to construct drainages and retaining walls has already begun. The height of this road is being raised at certain places so that water does not stagnate during monsoon,” said Salgaonkar.
Sangolda Sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar said the Chogm road had badly deteriorated and there was a constant demand from the public to hot-mix this road as early as possible.
“The issue of hot-mixing this road was raised by villagers in the gram sabha several times,” said Morajkar, while thanking the MLA for taking up the work to hot-mix the Chogm road.
