Online services in the Municipal bodies resumed on Monday after rectification of the server, but the Margao Municipal Council witnessed a serpentine queue of citizens at the birth and death section to lay their hands on the birth and death certificates.

As applicants queued up at the Birth and death counter of the Margao Municipal Council, the staff drafted to man the section had to contend with a backlog of applications, since the server was down for a week now.

In fact, the serpentine queue spilled over to the Municipal building passage as a large number of applicants turned up at the building, hoping to finally lay their hands on the birth and death documents.

The staff had a harrowing time in disposing of the huge number of applications which has been pending over the last one week after the server was down due to some power defects.

A citizen Nelson Fernandes told the media that the Municipality ought to have put in place additional manpower to clear the backlog knowing fully well that the system was down for the last one week and that citizens were expected to come in large number to collect their birth and death certificates.

“The manner in which the citizens were standing in a queue at the Municipal building suggests that they were all desperate to receive the documents. When the Civic authorities were aware that the server was down for an entire week and the citizens would turn up in large numbers, additional arrangements ought to have been put in place to cater to the requirements”, Nelson said.

Inquiries by The Goan have revealed that the server was down at the Secretariat Porvorim due to power issues.

While the system has been rectified today, sources said the government should resolve the recurring electric issues that has been plaguing  the centre, throwing the entire online services haywire.
