PANAJI: the Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday kept for Wednesday the hearing in the matter concerning the election to the managing committee of the Serula comunidade after the Advocate General told the court that the North Goa SP and Collector will be present on Wednesday.
Earlier the Court had sought affidavits from the Administrator of Comunidades (North) over what actually transpired during the stormy meeting of the comunidade on January 27.
On Tuesday when the matter came up, the court sought to know why the situation was not brought under control despite the presence of police and administrative authorities. Not satisfied with the replies, the court sought the presence of the North Goa SP and the Collector, who will now present themselves on Wednesday.
A petitioner Yeshwant Shirodkar had approached the Bombay High Court at Goa citing postponement of the elections to the Managing Committee of the Communidade of Serula for the triennium 2019-2022.
The reason for postponement of the elections is stated to be the inability of the Police Department to provide police protection on account of celebration of Christmas eve, new year's eve, peak tourist season and other major events organized in the State of Goa as most of the staff are deployed for law and order bandobast duty and hence the Police Inspector will not be in a position to provide police personnel as requested by the Administrator of Comunidades on the said date and as such, the request is made to postpone the elections to the next month or some other convenient date.
On Sunday, Alex D’Souza was elected president and Joseph Pinto was elected as his substitute but elections to other office bearers could not be held due to the ruckus and the inability of the police to bring the situation under control.
Earlier, an attempt was made to postpone the elections once again citing the feasts of Salvador do Mundo and Socorro, which was rejected by the High Court.
