A spokesperson from Sesa Goa informed that the company has got the DMG’s permission to move iron ore through 200 trucks to Capxem and 400 trucks to Amona. The DMG has told the company that permission is being given because iron ore is required for domestic consumption of plant, which is in line with ‘Make in India’ campaign.
The pig iron plant at Amona is within half a kilometre radius of Amona jetty, but the movement of ore from the jetty to the plant requires crossing state highway. The company required DMG’s permission because road movement of ore during monsoon is banned.
The iron ore will be sourced from Codli mines, from where it will travel through road on trucks to Capxem jetty and from there it will come through the water route to Amona jetty. From Amona jetty, ore will again be transported to pig iron plant through trucks on road.
