Several villages face water shortage in Sattari taluka

VALPOI

Several villages in Sattari have been hit by water shortage since the last three days and high turbidity at the Dabose water project has been attributed to this scarcity.

Residents in many villages in Sattari have been forced to rely on tankers for water supply, prompting angry reactions from the affected residents.

According to sources, rains in the area have led to high turbidity at the Dabose water project, making it difficult to treat a sufficient quantity of water and supply it to Sattari taluka.

Residents were particularly upset over having to face water shortage on Ganesh Chaturthi, but PWD officials explained that they could do nothing to resolve the disrupted supply on account of turbid water being received at the Dabose water project.

Aggrieved residents also complained that there was an insufficient number of tankers to cater to the water requirements of all affected residents and demanded that both MLAs in Sattari should make alternate arrangements to ensure a better supply in the taluka.

In Koparde, residents have been facing a water shortage for the last three days and many villagers were forced to get water from wells in the area.

Local panchas -- Sayaji Sawant and Radhika Sawant -- made efforts to provide water supply to affected villagers. Water supply officials also visited the affected sites to take stock of the situation.
