VASCO

The rising incidents of sewage overflowing from chambers at a residential area in Pandurangwadi, Patrong in Baina, will soon be a thing of the past as the old sewage chambers (around 25) of the area are likely to be reconstructed.

The PWD assistant engineer Thomas Landez along with the ward councillor and former MMC chairperson Deepak Naik inspected the area and the work on reconstruction of new chambers is likely to commence shortly.

According to sources, the residents who were fed up with the daily overflowing of sewage chambers had complained to the ward councillor Deepak Naik who later approached the PWD.

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida later also proposed to have the old chambers reconstructed in the area and finally the works are likely to begin in a week’s time.

Speaking to the media, PWD AE Thomas Landez said that the sewage lines that were already existing for a long time but due to years of usage, the chambers had become old and deteriorated and hence PWD were taking up the work of reconstruction so that smooth flow of sewage can be started again. “As of now, a lot of people are complaining that there is choke up now and then and the old chambers are creating a problem. We have to act on the complain and one solution is to get the chambers’ dimension changed and carry out repairs. These problem will not be faced by people again after this work is undertaken in the area,” said Landez.

He said since the area was big, the works would be taken in parts. “There will be around 35 to 40 chambers that will be reconstructed. The residents have also extended us their full cooperation as this will resolve their issues and also provide a hygienic environment to everyone,” he added.

Speaking to the media, ward councillor  Deepak Naik said that the sewage lines and chambers all across the area in Patrong, Pandurangwadi had been overflowing for the last two years. “The chambers are very old and had to be repaired. After repairing the chambers the present issue of overflowing of sewage will be resolved. There are around 250 houses in the area and this works will resolve their issues. I thank the PWD AE Thomas Landez who came here for an inspection on Saturday and it was only because of him that another issue of overflowing in Junta Quarters in my ward was resolved,” said Naik.
