Sewing course concludes at Ponda

PONDA: Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar has instructed government servants to be quick to process public schemes, instead of allowing them to get stuck in red tape.

Mamledar expressed unhappiness at the programme organised by Labour and Employment department at Ponda, after he learnt that sewing machines under the Labour Welfare Centre scheme had not been distributed since the last two years.

Labour commissioner Arun Desai, assistant labour commissioner at Ponda Vaman Pai Bhatikar and others were present. About 14 women were given sewing machines under the scheme, after they successfully passed the training programme.

Stitching classes were imparted in two centres in Ponda and 40 women have presently sought admission.

He advised the women to target garment entrepreneurs, who purchase clothes from other states. “Get good designs and approach them to buy your products,” said Mamledar.

Arun Desai also spoke and encouraged women to pursue self-employment avenues.
