Parsekar promises preliminary report within 30 days

The ACB currently is investigating cases in the allotment of land under SEZ has wasted a long time, said Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godhino. He estimated with a price of `10,000 per square meter, for a total of 40 lakh square meter of land a total of `40,000 crore had to be collected which wasn’t the case.
Speaking on the floor of the House, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had said he would push for an out of court settlement.
“There are two cases, one in the Supreme Court and the other which the ACB is investigating. We will try to get an out of court settlement through which we will hope to get at least 80 per cent of the amount,” said Parsekar.
He also added that the next course of action would be taken once the report was prepared. Parsekar assured the house the preliminary report would be made available within 30 days.
Adding his observations to the discussion, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said, “When I was Chief Minister, we had scrapped the SEZs and issued notices to those that had taken the land
to return it back to the
government.”
Many also raised alarm against the government’s decision to go in for an out of court settlement. Parsekar however said the state government would have to
settle for a compensation of not more than 20 percent with promoters, to get the land back.
The state government in 2006 had allotted several plots of land under the SEZ category to companies. But due to objection with the manner in which they were allotted, the entire scheme was scrapped. However cases are still pending over ownership of land in SEZ areas.
