While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, Superintendent of Police (North) Umesh Gaonkar confirmed that an alarm was raised after the documents submitted by the three nationals did not match with the FRRO records.
The matter came to light when the FRRO, while cross-checking, discovered that C-Forms submitted by the accused along with passports and visa details did not tally with the passport holder.
Following which the three Nigerian nationals identified as Obey Sunny, Augustine Chukwudi Anfoh and Joshua Ebuka Eza were placed under arrest by the Saligao police under relevant sections of IPC, Foreigners Order, 1948 and Foreigners Act, 1946 for forgery and cheating.
The interrogation has revealed that the three accused came to Goa allegedly for business purpose. They entered the country via Mumbai.
Goa police has written to the Mumbai airport authorities asking them for the details of the three accused, it was disclosed.
“One of them is visiting India for the first time, while the other two have visited India earlier,” SP Gaonkar informed.
“When we realised that the documents were fake, we verified the detail of the passport and visa with the High Commission in Nigeria. And it was found that they have not issued any such visa,” said Gaonkar.
Presently, while it is established that the visas submitted by the three are fake, police are in the process of verifying the authenticity of their passports.
