According to reliable sources, Sawaikar on Wednesday met Prabhu in his office and submitted a letter in person asking for special trains for the Novenas and feast period.
“As you are aware that many pilgrims from Goa travel to Vailankanni in Chennai for feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni. I thank you for arranging special trains for last two years from Vasco-da-Gama to Vailankanni for the said feast following my request,” stated the letter.
“This year, the said feast commences from August 28 till September 8. In view of the same, you are once again requested to arrange to provide the special trains from Vasco-da-Gama to Vailankanni for the feast from August 24 to September 8.”
The letter further asked the railway minister to make early announcement so that it can help the pilgrims to plan their journey. “An early announcement of the train in this regard will help the pilgrims to arrange their travel plans accordingly,” added the letter.
The letter dated August 9 was personally submitted to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu by Sawaikar at Railway Bhavan on Wednesday, states the source.
