Adv Gomes lodged his complaint with the ACB under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Chairperson Babita Angle and Chief Officer Y B Tawde, accusing them for buying the vehicle for the Chairperson in violation of the rules in force.
He alleged in his complaint that despite advised by time and again by the Director of Administration officials to follow the office memorandum, both the Chairperson and the Chief Officer allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy purchase the Toyota vehicle by using the municipal fund in breach of the office memorandum, causing wrongly loss to the Civic body. “The vehicle has been allegedly purchased illegally without condemning and disposing of the existing Toyota Altis vehicle, which is just driven about 90,000 kms”, Adv Gomes said, adding “the acts of the Chairperson and the Chief Officer comes at a time when lakh of revenue has been cited by them as an alibi to not to carry out public development work.
Meanwhile, a group of persons under the banner of Shadow Council of Margao on Wednesday made their presence felt in the corridors of the Civic body with a banner protesting the purchase of the new vehicle for the Chairperson.
They waited for some time to meet the Chairperson, but though Babita was seen in the corridor of the Civic body, she left the Municipality without making her presence felt in her chamber. The delegation later called on the Chief Officer Y B Tawde and registered their protest.
Laurel Abranches told the media that the Municipality should not have gone for a high end vehicle by waiting the tax payers’ money.
