Flanked by the Fatorda Forward councillors from Fatorda led by Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai, Goa Forward chief spokesman Prashant Naik refuted the allegations made by the so-called residents of Fatorda that MLA Vijai Sardesai has drawn up plans to shift he heritage chapel from the present location. “Today, the GSIDC has given a reply in the Assembly to a LAQ that the road widening near the Fatorda stadium has been foreclosed and as such the claim that Sardesai intends to relocate any structures near the stadium is baseless as the possibility of any more work being carried out under the tender is out of question,” Naik said.
He said the allegation was a joint venture of the Fatorda Congress and BJP block to inflame communal tensions and vitiate the atmosphere by creating fears in the minds of the minority community that their religious structure is sought to be shifted. “Those who presented themselves as ‘Residents of Fatorda’, at least four are members of the Fatorda Block Congress Committee and the main person addressing the press was a member of the ESG who has been appointed through the offices of Damu Naik the defeated BJP candidate in Fatorda,” Naik alleged.
Naik said that Damu Naik and his Fatorda BJP mandal are blinded by the brilliance of the over whelming development undertaken in Fatorda constituency in the last four and a half years.
Referring to Damu’s allegation of lack of street lighting in Fatorda, MMC Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai pointed out that the responsibility of providing street lighting is not that of the MLA or the council. “Damu Naik’s allegation is an admission of the abject failure of the Electricity Department to maintain street lights in Fatorda.”
