Fish vendors in the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Monday said they are compelled to buy water from outside with the PDA’s promised water to the market still not becoming a reality till date.
Fisherwoman Bostean told The Goan that she and other vendors have been left with no option than to buy water for drinking purpose and for cleaning the fish for want of water supply to the market. “Every day, vendors have to stand in a queue in front of a private goods carrier to fetch a bucket full of water after paying the prescribed charges," she said.
Bostean and other vendors demanded that the SGPDA honour its commitment made to the vendors for early supply of water for drinking as well as cleaning of fish.
It may be recalled that after Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho took over the reigns of SGPDA last year, he had promised to make available water supply to the market within weeks. Godinho, however, later told the media that the PDA could not honour its commitment, accusing the PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar for putting spokes in the plan and the department raising a huge outstanding bill.
