MARGAO The SGPDA wholesale fishmarket, which was shutdown on Friday last aftera group of fish cutters hadtested positive for Covid, willreopen on Wednesday.While issuing an order forthe reopening of the wholesalefish market from Wednesday,SGPDA Member SecretaryVertika Dagur, however, hasbarred entry of fish cutters intothe market premises, warningthat the violators will be dealtwith strictly.Around five-six fish cuttersworking in the SGPDA wholesalefish market had testedpositive last week, forcing thePDA to i
mmediately shut downthe market as a precautionarymeasure. Since then, thewholesale fish market had remainedshut for the inter-statefish vehicles as well as thosefrom within the State.SGPDA Chairman, MLAWilfred D’Sa, said that it hasbeen decided to reopen thewholesale fish market sansthe fish cutters as a matterof caution. “We had shutdown the market after someof the fish cutters had testedpositive. A decision has beentaken to reopen, but withoutthe fish cutters,” he said.When asked whether theSGPDA had sanitized thewholesale fish market to date,D’Sa said the PDA will takea call on Tuesday whetheror not to sanitize the marketpremises.Incidentally, the SGPDA hadlast week issued a notice tothe Margao Wholesale FishMarket Association to showcause why action should notbe initiated as per law asnorms over social distancing,use of sanitizers were totallythrown to the winds in themarket.The PDA Chairman pointedout that while president ofthe market association hadgone to the media over theshow-cause notice, the PDAwill initiate appropriate actiononce the planning body goesthrough the reply of the association.
