With the Congress camp hit by confusion in the wake of reported cross voting by party MLAs, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shantaram Naik has said the voting pattern in the Presidential election will have no bearing on the Rajya Sabha poll scheduled on Friday, exuding confidence of retaining the seat.

He refused to offer comment on the crossing voting by the Congress MLAs in the Presidential election, but later said that though the voting pattern in the Presidential election may prima facie give rise to suspicion of cross voting by Congress MLAs, the party's internal mechanism will find out whether any cross voting by party MLAs has taken place in the election. "We have an internal party mechanism which will go into the issues arising out of the voting by the Congress Legislators in the Presidential election," Naik said. The two-time Rajya Sabha MP pointed out that the Presidential election result will have no bearing on the Rajya Sabha election scheduled on Friday. "There will be no impact of the results of the Presidential election on the Rajya Sabha poll. I am confident that I would get the required votes to retain the seat," Naik added.
