Goa Airport Director Gagan Malik on Friday said a significant increase in domestic passenger footfalls had led to the highest growth in operations across the Western Zone.
“There has been quite an increase in domestic passenger footfalls and we handled around 84 departures on Sunday. During weekends or long holidays, we have a footfall of around 24,000 passengers at Goa Airport.”
“This is a major growth for Goa Airport as far as the domestic sector is concerned and our growth is probably far more than any other airport in the Western region. Records suggest that as of date, Goa Airport has the most operations and we have an average of around 75 flights during weekdays and it goes to 84 departures during weekends,” said Malik.
“Almost all passengers are vaccinated while some passengers even get a Covid negative certificate. Hence, there is a boost in domestic passenger footfalls,” said Malik.
The airport director said three more different sectors would be connecting with Goa Airport soon.
“Airline operators will be starting a sector from Nagpur and Jaipur, while another sector is being proposed and
this will enhance the connectivity of Goa Airport and our reach will be wider,” said Malik.
Malik added that arrangements were also made for rapid testing of passengers for international flights, as per the latest protocol.
“We have a Rapid PCR facility as per the protocol for international flight departure and this has made our connection strong with the Sharjah flight sector.”
“Besides this, as per the central government’s protocol for international arrival, a certain section of passengers have to go for RTPCR tests and the Goa government has decided to follow the protocol at Goa Airport. We are geared up for this as well,” said Malik.
Meanwhile, Indigo has announced non-stop flights along the Goa-Amritsar sector, Goa-Jaipur sector and Goa-Kochi sector.
