The PWD highway section last week went ahead and hot mixed the road from Assonora petrol pump to the Carrasvaddo junction in spite of the poles. “It s completely irresponsible behaviour of the authorities concerned to hot mix the stretch, leaving the poles right in the middle of the road. Will they remove the poles after someone is killed,” asked Subash Kauthankar, a gram sabha member of Tivim. Secretary Keshav Phadte informed the gram sabha that the panchayat has already written to the electricity department and the PWD to shift the poles. The hot mixing of the road has also wiped out the painting of the speed breakers along the road, Kauthankar said. “A daily commuter may be aware of the speed breakers, but for an unknown person it could be dangerous, particularly to two-wheeler riders,” Kauthankar said. The secretary assured the members that the panchayat will write to the PWD to paint the speed breakers on priority. Jacinto Sequeira requested the panchayat to refill the trenches dug up by the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) to lay its gas line. “The authority has laid the line but left the trenches open at several places. During the monsoon, these trenches could cause problem to unsuspecting pedestrians or even motorists,” Sequeira said. Another member urged the panchayat to take immediate steps to repair the PWD building and hall which are in bad shape. Sarpanch Vital Vaigankar informed that a proposal has been sent to the RDA. The panchayat adopted a resolution to support the Sirsaim Panchayat s proposal to repair the road leading to the Konkan Railway Station at Sirsaim. The Sirsaim Panchayat had recently led a rally before the Konkan Railway Station Master requesting him to repair the road on urgent basis. Six panch members were present for the gram sabha. Arjun Aroskar, Shivdas Kambli and Erzilia Fernandes were absent. BDO representation, Umesh Sawant was present as the observer at the meeting.
