Shiv Jayanti celebrated with fervour at Canacona

Shiv Jayanti was celebrated with great fervour by the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal and Shiv Smarak Mandal, near the KTC bus stand at Chaudi on Wednesday.

In the morning, Purohit Sarvesh Hegde anointed the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, lit the Shiv Jyot and performed a puja at the Shiv Smarak outside the KTC bus stand.

After that, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar and CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Desai garlanded the statue of Shivaji.

Local Councillors Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Dheeraj Naik Gaonkar, Hemant Naik Gaonkar, besides Shiv Smarak Mandal members and others were present on the occasion.

After that, a grand procession of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji was conducted from Chaudi Shiv Smarak, towards Nagarscem, Char-Rasta, Palolem-Qurem junction, before taking a turn towards Sawantwada School, Devgipurush Auditorium Patnem, Patnem Junction, via Kepem to Pansulem, Chaudi, Mastimal Junction, Delem via Shri Mallikarjun & Chetan Manju Dessai College road, Khalwade Junction, Shristhal Panchayat. The procession culminated at the Mallikarjuna Devasthan (Temple) in Shristhal.

In the evening, a fancy dress competition was conducted for children. Later, a ‘Swarajya Surya’ was presented by Ganeshotsav mandal and Shivsmarak cultural & Sports Club, Chaudi, and a ‘Swarajya Surya’ was presented by the Gajantlaxmi Sports and Cultural Club, Ponda.
