Amid full-throated cries of “Jai Shivaji, Jai Bhavani” hailing the Maratha warrior king Shivchhatrapati (Shivaji) Maharaj, accompanied by the playing of traditional instruments -- Dhol, Tashe, Samel -- Margao reverberated with joy on the auspicious occasion of Shiv Jayanti (the birth anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj) on Friday.
One of the star attraction of the rally, which commenced at Housing Board, was a bust of late Shivaji Maharaj perched atop a vehicle decked with saffron flags, thereby providing a glimpse of Shivaji's 'Hindavi Swaraj' -- in service of the nation and in the betterment of all communities in the motherland.
The rally, which also witnessed the admirers of late Shivaji Maharaj wearing saffron turbans, marched to the beats of the traditional instruments as it marked its presence in Margao late Friday evening.
The rally wound its way from Maruti Mandir to Power House onwards to Hari Mandir and later to Lohia Maidan, Margao which marked its culmination point. The rally was accorded a traditional welcome by blowing of the 'Tutari' (an elongated version of a bugle dating back to the Maratha era).
The rally was later addressed by Sangli (Maharashtra) based Sujit Mane, who elucidated on 'Shivcharitra' (the life history of Shivaji Maharaj).

MARGAO: Terming the Late Maratha warrior king Shivchhatrapati (Shivaji) Maharaj as a management guru and a 'Vikas Purush' (a personality dedicated to development), Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Damu Naik said late Shivaji Maharaj coined the slogan of 'Hindavi Swaraj' while taking all communities together in his administrative set-up.
Addressing a gathering after garlanding the bust of Late Shivaji Maharaj at Ravindra Bhavan on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti on Friday, Naik said late Shivaji Maharaj got his initial lessons early in his childhood from his mother Jizabai. “He was always ahead of times. Especially his concepts regarding agriculture such as adopting drip irrigation facility and river navigation,” Naik stated.
Naik said late Shivaji Maharaj's administrative strategies were worthy of emulation even today, thereby explaining their relevance in the present era, paying yet another tribute to the vision and intellect of late Shivaji Maharaj.
Earlier, floral tributes were offered on the bust of the late Shivaji Maharaj by the dignitaries present at this function.
