Shop burns down in Candolim

MAPUSA: A spare parts shop was gutted while two other adjacent shops were partially damaged in a fire at Annawada-Candolim on Monday.

The owner of the spare parts shop has estimated the damages at Rs 30 lakh.

According to reports, the incident occurred in the afternoon, when the Yash Raj spare parts shop belonging to Rajaram Parab Palyekar was engulfed in flames, destroying engine oil, spare parts and other automobile accessories.

A team of Pilerne fire personnel rushed to the site, but the damage was already done.

The fire also spread to a nearby stationary shop belonging to John Rodrigues and another shop belonging to Daniel D'Souza, which were partially damaged.

The cause of fire is not known, but an electrical short circuit is suspected. Calangute Police conducted the panchanama.
