PORVORIM
A shop dealing with cutlery and catering material was gutted in fire near Vetal temple at Alto-Porvorim bazaar late Sunday night.
The Porvorim Fire Station received a call stating that a shop belonging to Mulchand Bhojwani had caught fire. A fire tender rushed to the spot with a fire tender.
As the fire tender was unable to extinguish the fire, three additional fire tenders from Mapusa, Pilerne and Panaji were dispatched to the site and the fire was put out after about 3 hours.
The exact cause of fire and the loss is not known, said the officials of the Porvorim Fire station.
Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar and other panch members visited the site on Monday morning.
“The shop has been destroyed and the panchayat has decided to provide some financial assistance to the shop owner,” said Pednekar.
When contacted, the shop owner Mulchand Bhojwani said the shop was not insured.
“Everything in the shop has been destroyed and the losses would run into several lakhs of rupees. The exact cause of fire is unclear,” said Bhojwani.
