The Maina Curtorim Police has come out with a novel idea to ensure peace in the communally sensitive Rumdamol Housing Board area.
Newly-posted police station in-charge, PI Arun Desai has told the panwallas doing business in the Housing Board area to shut down the business by 10 pm every day, during the auspicious month of Shravan till Ganesh Chathurti.
By doing so, the police officer feels that the rush witnessed inside the lanes and by-lanes in the housing board at the establishments, including at the pan selling stalls, will automatically end by 10 pm.
PI Desai further said the police would monitor the implementation of the exercise, adding that if the men-in-uniform still find rush in the Housing Board late night due to other factors, than the police would reconsider the initiative.
“The Rumdamol Housing Board has become a sensitive area. Hence, we are taking a host of measures to ensure there is no tension. I am starting the exercise with the panwallas and the same would be extended to other business establishments to shut down by 10 pm,” he told the pan sellers.
The initiative has come days after a couple of four-wheelers were vandalised by some miscreants late at night.
