Delhi native gets 18 months jail in prostitution case

The South Goa Sessions Court on Thursday has sentenced accused Abhishek Mehra, a native of Delhi, to undergo simple imprisonment of one year and six months under Section 4 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Additional Sessions Judge, Pooja Kavlekar, however said the period during which the accused was in custody, that is from October 8, 2020 to June 3, 2022 shall be set off. 

In this case investigated by then Colva police station in-charge, PI Melson Colaco, the police conducted a raid on October 8, 2020 near a hotel at Sernabatim-Colva, wherein a decoy customer was sent to the accused.

The decoy customer struck a deal with the accused person and gave him a currency note of Rs 2,000 for the girl.

Immediately, a raid was conducted in the presence of panch witnesses.

The raiding party later rescued the victim girl.
