MARGAO
A sizeable tract of agricultural land at Sarzora has been brought under cultivation, thanks to an initiative by local farmers under the banner of Golden Fields Farmers Group, Sarzora.
As part of the community farming initiative in the village, the fencing project was inaugurated in the village at the hands of Velim MLA Cruz Silva, who has underscored the need for a bill on contract farming to bring fallow lands across the State under cultivation.
In fact, Cruz told the media after the inauguration of the fencing project at Sarzora in the presence of Sarpanch Sarpanch Leona Fernandes and deputy Sarpanch Riya Oliveira, that he and the opposition members would press the government in the ensuing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to bring a bill on contact farming.
“Since there is no policy on Agriculture, a bill on contact farming policy would revolutionize agriculture in the State as it would help in bringing fallow fields under cultivation,” he said.
Appreciating the role played by Sarzora deputy Sarpanch Riya Oliveira in bringing the fields at Sarzora under cultivation, Cruz said the initiative to bring fallow fields at Chinchinim will help to make Velim a model agricultural village in the future.
