OLD GOA
Political leaders of various parties including BJP, Congress and Goa Forward condemned the decision of the Additional Director of Panchayats to suspend the resolution on the Siridao sarpanch no-confidence motion, terming it a murder of democracy.
Speaking to reporters, Panch Antonio Afonso questioned on what basis the order was pronounced when the petition was signed by only three panchas, who do not constitute a majority.
“Is it democracy or autocracy? We want to ask the CM what happened to his assurance on the floor of the house that the meeting of no-confidence motion would take place. Then why was it declared ‘null and void’?” he posed and termed the order of the additional DoP as murder of democracy.
Goa Forward’s Durgadas Kamat stated that the ex-parte order passed by the addl DoP is nothing but murder of democracy.
“We have shown earlier with regards to the reservations in municipal elections that the courts can override the government and we will see to it that the same happens in the case of Siridao incident as well.
He further warned the officials not to toe the lines of the government as it has only six months left.
BJP leader Ramrao Wagh said the BDO observer deliberately didn’t sign on the minutes book as he said he would send a report separately.
