Sirsaim Sarpanch Anand Temkar led a delegation to the office of Station Master Ravi Shankar and submitted a memorandum requesting the KR officials to take up the repair of road on war footing.
“On a number of occasions we submitted representation to officials concerning the bad condition of the road, but nothing happened. In the last Gram Sabha, we resolved to take up the matter very seriously,” Temkar said.
“We have submitted a memorandum to the KR management requesting them to repair the road within 15 days or else we will be forced to hold a Rasta Roko,” he added.
The villagers had been raising the bad condition of the road since the last number of years but failed to get any response from the authorities. Traffic movement was badly affected and on several occasions mishaps also took place due to the deteriorating condition of the road.
The length of the road is around 800 metres which connects the road at Sirsaim.
A number of memorandums were submitted to the KRC on several occasions. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and MP Shantaram Naik who visited the station last year only gave assurances but nothing moved after that, the Sirsaim sarpanch informed.
He said the panchayat had knocked the doors of the minister and even the Member of Parliament but to no avail.
“Tivim is the biggest railway station in North Goa and large number of tourists embark at the station. Such bad roads make a bad impact on the visitors besides inconveniencing the locals,” he said.
Station Master Ravi Shankar assured that he would forward the memorandum to his higher ups, who will take an appropriate decision in the matter.
