Six Nigerians who were staying in the State even after the expiry of their visa were arrested, Anjuna Police said on Saturday.
The arrests were made following information gathered through intelligence inputs.
On getting specific information, police conducted a raid on the football ground at Tar Siolim and nabbed all the six accused who had no valid documents and staying in the country even after the end of their visa period.
All of them were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days, police informed.
The following six were arrested: Dion Albert (31) a national of Ivory Coast but residing in Parra, Uche Okafor (36), a Nigerian national and staying in Oxel, Ebuka Chiuba Obiekme (37) a Nigerian national but presently residing at Parra, Onyibor Michael Okwudili (23) currently living at Parra, Joseph Ndulue (39) a Nigerian at present staying in Siolim and Emmanuel Aluma (32) a Nigerian national but residing in Siolim.
Anjuna Police registered an offence under section 7(1)(3)(iii) of the Foreigners Order 1948 punishable u/s 14 of Foreigners Act 1946.
Meanwhile, four of them were earlier arrested by Anjuna Police under the NDPS Act.
Dion Albert was earlier arrested in Anjuna u/s 21(a) of NDPS and was on bail while Uche Okafor was also earlier arrested in Anjuna u/s 21 (b) of the NDPS Act.
Similarly, Ebuka Chiuba was earlier arrested in Anjuna u/s 21(b) of the NDPS Act and u/s 3(2)(a) & 6(a) passport entry into India Rule 1950, sec 3 & 4 of Passport Entry into India 1920 and sec 7 (i) (iii) Foreigners Order 1948 & sec 14 of Foreigners Act 1946 while Onyibor Okwudili was arrested by the Crime Branch Police Station u/s 21 (a) of the NDPS Act, Sec 7(1)(3) of the Foreigners order 1948 r/w section 14 of foreigners Act, 1946 and Section 3(a)&6(a) of Passport Entry into India rule 1950 & Sec 3 r/w 4 of passport Entry Act, 1920.
