Mapusa police have registered an offence of negligence against two builders, an engineer and other contractors in connection with the collapse of the slab at a high-rise building under construction at Angod-Mapusa.
The construction was in progress when the centring plates gave way and the slab collapsed, injuring five workers, Ranjit Kumar, Gautam Yadav, Sibu Thakur, Dilip Kumar and Sohail Rana.
Police said the workers were not provided with safety gear/equipment and an offence was registered against the two builders Mahesh Goenka, Rozario Fernandes, engineer Rajesh Mhambrey and other contractors under Sections 336, 337, 338 r/w 34 IPC.
Meanwhile, the police on Monday directed the PWD, North Goa Planning Development Authority (NGPDA), electricity department and Mapusa Municipal Council to investigate the construction of the project and to submit a report.
The building is being constructed near the old MMC building. The construction of one of the buildings in the project has been completed, and work on the second building was underway. The slab was being cast on the first floor, when the entire slab came down along with the workers working on it.
