Socorro local dies in Porvorim accident
PORVORIM: A 60-year-old pedestrian from Maina-Socorro died in a road accident at O’Coqueiro junction at Porvorim on Monday morning. One person has been arrested in this connection.
According to Porvorim Police, Harish Halankar was crossing the road at O’Coqueiro junction at 6.30 am when he was knocked down by a speeding car (MH-07-P-2638), which was proceeding from Panaji towards Malvan.
Police further informed that the car driver fled from the scene. The seriosuly injured Halarnkar was rushed to the GMC at Bamobolim, where doctors on duty declared him dead on arrival.
Police said the car driver Santosh Wakker confessed to the police at Patradevi that he committed an offence. Police detained him and handed him over to the Porvorim Police.
Police registered the offence and arrested the accused under Sections 279, 304(A) of IPC and Section 134 ( a) (b) of M V Act. Police Sub Inspector Anil Polekar is investigating the case.
