PORVORIM
After serving for a little over a month, Socorro Sarpanch Anil Pednekar could well lose his seat over allegations of loose remarks made against Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, after six of the 11 panchas moved a no-confidence motion against him on Thursday.
The six panchas, Sandeep Manjrekar, Sanjay Pednekar, Rovlu Parsekar, Reshma Morajkar, Dittosa Lobo and Maya Keni submitted a notice of no-confidence motion against Pednekar to the Mapusa block development office.
However, sources said Pednekar, who had been elected sarpanch last month, had pledged his support to Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, after being instrumental in toppling then sarpanch from the BJP group, Sandeep Vazarkar.
“Pednekar, while speaking to a private news channel, had passed some derogatory remarks against MLA Rohan Khaunte without the consent of his co-members. Hence, other members moved a no-confidence motion against him,” said sources.
However, in their no-confidence motion, the six panchas accused Pednekar of encouraging illegal constructions, failing to take panch members into confidence while taking decisions on developmental issues and had failing to discharge duties as per the Panchayat Raj Act.
