OLD GOA

The Save Old Goa Action Committee (SOGAC) has expressed dismay over their platform being used for political mileage by individuals.

Speaking to reporters at the protest site at Old Goa on Saturday, SOGAC Treasurer Hugo Gonsalves said though the issue of the demolition of the structure has not been resolved, the individuals whom they allowed to protest alongside have used their platform and have stopped the protest claiming that the demolition exercise has started.

“Not only that, huge hoardings have appeared in St Cruz constituency claiming that their agitation is a success,” Gonsalves stated and condemned such individuals for the false claims.

“It has been done solely for gaining cheap publicity for which our platform has been misused,” Gonsalves said.

Meanwhile, architect Tahir Noronha said nowhere in the directives issued by the TCP is it mentioned that the panchayat should initiate demolition exercise.

“In fact, the panchayat has been directed to act against the structure as per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act. So where is the question of TCP initiating demolition exercise?” Noronha posed.

Activist Anthony D'Silva said since there is no concrete action for demolition of the structure, the fast satyagraha will continue till the structure is razed to the ground.

Later, Aruna Wagh outlined the future programme of the satyagraha wherein people from all 40 constituencies will agitate with them, on different days, throughout the month of December.

Meanwhile, Revolutionary Goans supremo Manoj Parab while extending support to the agitation informed that the issue will feature in their manifesto wherein assurance will be given to demolish the structure.
