Goa’s solar industry is set for rapid growth, with projected business turnover reaching Rs 325 crore by 2027, according to the Solar Power Association of Goa (SPAG). At a press conference, SPAG President Sandeep Naik credited the PM Surya Ghar Scheme and the Goa State Solar Policy as game-changers, calling it the “best solar policy till date.”

Naik said Goa currently has 12 MW of installed solar capacity, with 2 MW in progress, and estimates this will increase to 65 MW by 2027. Consumer investment is expected to rise from Rs 18 crore to Rs 162 crore over the same period.

The number of entrepreneurs in the sector is expected to triple from 45 to 135, while direct employment is projected to reach 2,250 and indirect jobs 6,750 by 2027.

The central government has disbursed Rs 18.87 crore in subsidies so far, and GST collections from the sector are expected to rise from Rs 4.48 crore to Rs 39 crore.

Naik urged the state government to extend the 50% subsidy policy till 2027 and encouraged more Goans to become ‘prosumers’, saying “this is the best time to go solar.”
