Claiming that some people were deliberately spreading wrong information to people, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the Mollem Tarmnar Project is a need of the hour to fulfil the future requirement of electricity of the State.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 0.8 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Sankhali in the presence of PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar.
The STP has been built at a cost of Rs 2.8 crore. The Sewerage Scheme for Sankhali along with 0.8 MLD STP was handed over to SIDCGL by GSIDC for completion and commissioning in 2019.
A total 3 kms of sewer line is laid covering four wards in Sankhali with connection of 130 houses, which includes 3 schools, a temple and two banks. The STP can accommodate up to 1,400 house connections.
Emphasising the value of water, Sawant said the people must know the actual value of treated water.
“The government is spending a minimum of Rs 15 per cubic litre to treat water and the government supplies this treated water to people at a cost of Rs 3 per cubic litre. The Government bares the actual cost of treated water as well as actual cost of electricity and supplies it to consumers at reasonable rates,” said Sawant, while appealing to every Goan to shoulder the responsibility to preserve water.
The chief minister asked the Sankhali Municipal Council and health authorities to initiate action to connect the remaining houses and buildings to the STP plant.
“Water from the STP plant can be used free of cost for garden, construction work and other work purpose,” he said.
Highlighting various completed projects in Sankhali area, Sawant said Sankhali would soon witness a new bridge at Karpur, garden, new bus stand and market complex, which would give a new look to Sankhali area.
PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said Goa is moving to achieve the vision of ex-chief minister late Manohar Parrikar to make Goa clean and safe.
He complimented Sawant for his dedicated efforts to complete the STP project and said such projects are needed to control soil pollution due to open sewerage.
Pauskar also said the central government has provided sufficient budget under various central sponsored schemes, through which the government will complete various highway roads and 100 percent tap water to Goans under the Jal Jivan Mission scheme.
Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd Vice Chairperson and St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes spoke on the occasion.
Sankhali Municipal Council Chairperson Yehwant Madkar and other councillors were present on the occasion.
