Two days after 99 residents of Sonshi-Sattari were arrested on charges of obstructing ore transportation through their village, a group of residents met the Bicholim deputy collector on Saturday and warned that they would continue their agitation.
It may be recalled that 99 Sonshi residents were arrested on Thursday for allegedly blocking trucks transporting ore from Sonshi to Amona.
The residents have been protesting the movement of trucks in the village since the last four days and had also blocked some trucks on Wednesday.
In a bid to resolve the tension, Bicholim Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar convened a meeting with residents on Saturday. The residents were, however, determined to oppose movement of trucks from their village and insisted that their agitation would continue.
The deputy collector then told them that strict action would be taken if they blocked the traffic. The residents then stated that they would not block the trucks, but would continue with their agitation by the roadside in a peaceful manner.
