CM: Vehicles will run on locally generated CNGrrrthe goan I networkrMARGAOrrParrikar said his study has revealed the state will be in a position to run around 200 buses with CNG generated from the four waste treatment plants after they become fully operational in the state. “The Saligao waste treatment plant presently generates around 68 per cent CNG, which after segregation from other items by spending Rs 3-4 crore will be used to run buses in the state”, the Chief Minister told the media on the sidelines of the commissioning of the two STP plants at Sirvodem on Wednesday.rHe said two CNG filling stations can be set up at Panjim and Margao to cater to the requirements of the 2-3 buses operating along the route on a trial basis. “We can even make provision for a mobile CNG unit to take care of the emergencies”, he added.rHe said the government intends to enter into a 50-year old contract to operate CNG operated buses in the state. “Nagpur presently has around 50 CNG operated buses. They have also introduced CNG operated taxis. I am confident that with the commissioning of the four waste treatment plants, we will be able to run around 200 CNG operated buses in the state”, he said.rSaying that Goa generates around 180 tons of waste per days, the Chief Minister said the generation of this quantum of waste will be enough to generate adequate quantity of CNG to operate the buses. “Elsewhere, including Delhi, CNG buses are in operation, but they are operating on CNG generated from petroleum products. We intend to use the CNG generated by the waste treatment plants. Soon, CNG buses on Panaji-Margao route
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that CNG generated from the Saligao waste treatment plant would be used to operate buses on Goan roads. 2-3 CNG operated buses will ply on the Panjai-Margao route on trial basis before August 15, Parrikar said while adding that, the government would shortly float a tender inviting companies to operate regular CNG operated buses from December this year.
