A 500-bedded super-speciality block will soon come up at Goa Medical College and Hospital Complex, Bambolim with 11 super speciality facilities including endocrinology, oncology and liver transplant.
The facility will be constructed at a cost of Rs 450 crore of which Rs 120 crores will be funded by the Centre. The foundation stone for the same is likely to be laid after the budget session of the State Legislative Assembly.
Speaking about the super speciality block, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said, “The Centre has decided to give us Rs 120 crore for the project. But instead of having a 200-bedded hospital, we have decided to enhance it to 500 beds.”
The decision was taken at a recently held meeting of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar along with Deputy Chief Minister, GMC Dean and Medical Superintendent and health Commissioner.
While the GMC already has equipment for eight super specialities, the equipment needed for three others will have to be set up.
“We will need infrastructure for three new facilities “ endocrinology, oncology and liver transplant “ like building which we will have to construct”, said D’Souza. He, however, pointed out that Goa has no liver transplant facility.
The architecture and design plan for the block is already in place and land has also been identified for the same.
