The Paroda Gram Sabha on Sunday has resolved not to grant any permission for any beer or liquor factory in the village at the cost of the coconut trees.
At the Gram Sabha held on Sunday, chaired by Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate, members demanded to know why the government has employed different yardstick for a coconut tree and other trees on the permission to cut these trees.
Sarpanch Kharangate pointed out that members were of the opinion that any tree, including a coconut tree, can fall down, while seeking to know why only coconut tree can be cut down without government permission.
He said the Gram Sabha has made to very clear that villagers will not accept any liquor factory from setting up shop in the village by cutting trees.
The meeting also discussed the projects in respect of the 14th Finance Commission, with Sarpanch pointing accusing fingers at the Salcete BDO office for not making available the services of the engineers promptly to prepare estimates. Gram Sabha demanded to know why the panchayats are forced to engage private engineers when the Salcete BDO has a technical cell, while calling for streamlining of the functioning of the BDO engineering cell.

projects under
14th Finance Commission
MARGAO: The Dramapur-Sirlim Gram Sabha on Sunday discussed the list of projects cited under the 14th Finance Commission before adjourning the meeting.
Chaired by Sarpanch Edcy Fernandes, the meeting discussed and deliberated on the projects which would be taken up by the Panchayat under the 14th Finance Commission. After discussions and approval of the list, Gram Sabha members demanded adjournment of the meeting to a future date.

P'yat to collect month rent
for leased out premises
MARGAO: The Navelim village Gram Sabha on Sunday has resolved to ask the landlords, who have leased out their premises to the tenants, to pay the prescribed rent to the panchayat body.
The meeting also raised objection to the presence of newly installed mobile towers in the village, with some members demanding to know why no action is initiated against the towers as has been done by the neighbouring Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat.
At the meeting held on Sunday, members pointed out that though a large number of villagers have leased out their premises to tenants, the village panchayat has not benefitted in any way by way on rent. They pointed out that the Panchayati Raj Act mandates the landlords to pay one month’s rent to the panchayat body, while demanding that the panchayat sets in motion the process to recover the rent from the landlords.
Members also demanded to know the fate of the suggestions made by the villagers to the Regional Plan. Sarpanch Frank Fernandes pointed out that the panchayat body has forwarded the suggestions to the government for necessary action.
