Work on building the required infrastructure is in its fag end and complaints regarding lack of water at the Estate are likely to end by November 2016 itself.
Ganesh Gaonkar, chairman, Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) informed that the work for water infrastructure at Verna Industrial Estate is going on at a rapid pace and it is likely to finish in November.
Verna Industrial Estate is home to manufacturing facilities of some of the biggest global and Indian companies like Putzmeister, Cipla, Sanofi India, Wyeth, Lupin among several others. But, till now, these companies have to rely on bore-wells and tankers for their water requirements.
In 2013, the then chief minister, Manohar Parrikar, had promised the industries at Verna Industrial Estate that the government would provide a pipeline for raw water supply. The said pipeline for raw water was constructed from Nasai to Verna Industrial Estate, but rest of the work on infrastructure was remaining.
As of now, water comes through this pipeline to the sump. Prakash Gurav, chief general manager, GIDC, said, “The pipeline work to take water from sump to tank and from tank to factories is almost over.”
This project is split into many parts. The main parts are pipeline to distribute the water, pump-house, pump and water tank. The water, which comes through the pipeline from Nasai, gets collected at the sump, from there it has to be pumped to water tank on the top and from the tank it has to be distributed again to factories.
It was also informed that GIDC has placed an order for pump, while the construction of pump-house has already been completed upto plinth level. The work on water infrastructure also took long because the consultant to whom it was entrusted earlier expressed his inability to do so and therefore it had to be allotted to another consultant.
