Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte on Thursday inspected a dilapidated road at Madhalwada-Morjim and assured to convene a joint meeting with the Morjim panchayat on August 12 to discuss the issue.
Sopte inspected the road in the presence of Morjim Sarpanch Shanti Poke, Deputy Sarpanch Amit Shetgaonkar, Panchas Vaishalli Shetgaonkar, Tushar Shetgaonkar, Umesh Gadekar, Pawan Morje, Vilas Morje, Prakash Shirodkar, PWD (road division) Officer Vilas Tambose and a group of residents.
According to locals, the government had acquired land in 2001 to construct road at Madhalawada-Morjim, but the landowner concerned took the matter to court after claiming he had not been paid for the acquired land.
As a result, there has been no repair work for the last 16 years since the matter is pending in court and the road is now in a dilapidated condition.
On December 25, 2016, former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar had laid the foundation stone to hotmix the road, but no action was taken to repair the road.
Speaking to reporters, Sopte said the road had badly deteriorated and had endangered the lives of motorists along the route.
"I will convene a joint meeting with the Morjim panchayat on August 12 to discuss this issue," said Sopte and also assured to meet the landowner concerned to work out an amicable settlement.
