The South Goa district administration on Wednesday descended on the Old College, Gogol-Margao, to conduct an assessment of the residential building, individual houses, shops and kiosk on a property which the administration says is an alleged enemy property.
A huge force was mobilized to offer protection to the officials from the Salcete Mamlatdar, surveyors and the Margao Municipal Council engineers as they went about carrying out the assessment of the building standing on the property.
It’s now decades since these buildings had come up on the land in question, with the owner purchasing the apartments and houses legally and after following the legal procedure.
That’s not all. The owners of these apartments and houses have been paying house tax to the MMC, a fact that has been told by the Municipal engineers during the inquiry.
The MMC is now expected to submit its report to the Salcete Mamlatdar which will then be forwarded to the Collector, South, for further action.
Officials in the know pointed out that the owners of the apartments and flats are not at fault and have purchased the property via legal means. “How can the owners be held responsible if the government now claims that is an enemy property?” an owner questioned.
Salcete taluka has around nine enemy properties, out of which owners of three properties have got relief from the High Court.
